Another Trump economy WIN: Food stamp usage plummets below 40 million as Americans get back to work

Under Obama, more Americans (and “undocumented” people) than ever before were taking advantage of social welfare in the form of “food stamps,” or what are more officially known today as Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT). But things are changing under President Trump, as the number of food stamp recipients has dipped below 40 million – and for the first time in nearly a decade.

The latest data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) shows that there are now 39,604,428 people (as of this writing) enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, which provides government food benefits for people in need.

The last time food stamp numbers were below 40 million was back in February 2010, when a slightly lower number of 39,588,993 was recorded by the USDA. What these latest numbers suggest is that more people are now working under Trump, which means fewer of them are unable to purchase food on their own – a solid sign of a strong economy.

While there’s been an overall downward trend in food stamp usage since around 2013 before Trump was elected, the latest data shows that an impressive 2.5 million people have cancelled their benefits since he was sworn into office. Much of this is due to Trump’s aggressive efforts to spur the economy and trim welfare waste.

Another factor was the USDA’s hiring of an “integrity officer” back in March, which has helped to eliminate much of the fraud that plagued the program, especially during the Obama years. The Trump administration also came up with the “Harvest Box” concept, rolled out back in February, that offers SNAP recipients monthly food boxes (as opposed to unaccountable cash reloads) as part of their benefits package.

Many people living in America openly abused the SNAP program while Obama was in office, including illegals

This was actually one of the major problems with the food stamp program during the Obama years: rampant abuse, including by illegal aliens who don’t even belong in the country, let alone being on the dole of welfare benefits paid by and intended for taxpaying-Americans.

As you may recall, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests submitted by Judicial Watch several years back pulled up information showing that the Obama administration had engaged in a seditious plot to sign up as many illegals who wanted them for welfare benefits. Part of this involved tacking up Spanish-language fliers in “minority” areas instructing illegals about how to gain access to these welfare benefits, using verbiage like:

“You need not divulge information regarding your immigration status in seeking this benefit for your children.”

But not under President Trump. Not only are illegals no longer being encouraged to milk the system at the expense of hard-working Americans, but the Trump administration is even implementing certain safeguards to ensure that they can’t, and that those receiving welfare benefits truly need them.

Last month, the USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service released data showing that many of the SNAP payments made under Obama were illegitimate. The goal now is to increase both transparency and integrity when it comes to doling out food stamps, and the Trump administration is working hard to implement these reforms as quickly and efficiently as possible.

One proposed change by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), contained within a report released this past June, would involve moving welfare benefits such as SNAP, as well as other similar safety-net programs, under the umbrella of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
